William Horace Bougourd
« on: Monday 23 October 23 13:59 BST (UK) »
He was born 29th January 1860 and drowned in the harbour at St Peter Port, near the White Rock, in October 1939 just 3 months short of his 80th Birthday.  He was still working for the Great Western Railway where he started in about 1896.  He was my Grandfather but I never met him as he died nine years before I was born.

All possessions were left behind when my father and his English born mother escaped just ahead of the German invasion.  Most of the rest of the family were sent to Biberach in Bavaria.

I am hoping that someone can help me find copies of the press reports of his death and possibly even a photograph of him (Yes, I know that is hoping for a miracle!)

Many thanks

Neville Bougourd

Is the spelling of the surname in your subject line incorrect?

Yes, it is incorrect but that was my mistake!  Thank you for letting me know - I have corrected the error.

Sadly I can't seem to find any Channel Island newspapers online that cover that date.

I can't find any after 1917.  I think they must be stored as hard copies, possibly in the Priaulx Library (not always easy to access).  I know they exist because I had copies of 2 different articles when I did my family tree but that was over 50 years ago.  I know I still have them as I never throw anything like that out!  It will take me weeks to go through all the boxes in my loft but I will find them.
