Ann Beard c1805
« on: Tuesday 24 October 23 19:48 BST (UK) »
Any help to shed light on Ann Beard would be very welcome - I have her marrying William Augustus Davison on 1 April 1805 in St Georges Hanover Square, London and then a burial on 28 February 1806 at the Fetter Lane burial ground from St Dunstan's workhouse.  I can't find any information about Ann and I'm not sure these are the same person but William marries again in 1816.  Any help gratefully received.  Thank you.

What was her marital status on the 1805 marriage?  Spinster or widow

How old was the Ann Davison buried 1806

I can’t answer either question, her status isn’t recorded on the marriage register and nor is her age at burial. Very annoying.

Witnesses to the 1805 marriage of Ann Beard were Charlotte Davison and John Stanley.
Ann Beard could write her own name.

Yes, Charlotte is the groom's widowed mother, no idea about the other.  The Davison men had a habit of marrying widows a few years older so this might be the case for Ann but the two bits of information that might both be her, give nothing away.  The groom was barely 19 which suggests some urgency - pregnancy or possibly Ann was ill and maybe (me being cynical) William had some small expectation if she died.  There's no record available at St Dunstan's workhouse to offer a clue.  When William married again, in 1816, to an older widow, he was poorly himself and the family were in and out of the workhouse until his death in 1833.

The 1816 marriage states that William Augustus was a bachelor and Margaret Hannah Carr a Spinster  :-\

Yes it does.  No idea why an earlier marriage wasn't mentioned but I have the right man.
