Walter John Poole in Guernsey 1920s to in/after 1947
« on: Wednesday 25 October 23 21:50 BST (UK) »
Hello I am trying to find out what happened to my Grandad's uncle Walter John Poole. Born in 1877 in Stratford, Essex, he moved to the Channel Islands in the 1920s and I believe this was Guernsey.

He came back to London during the Second World War and then I believe went back again. He was alive when his father died in 1947, but after this I have no idea at all when he died or anything of his life in Guernsey.

Is anyone please able to point me in the right to direction to try and find out about him?

Thank you,
Jon

Yes that is him and he married just as Walter in 1921, but it is Walter John everywhere else!

I have the family bible with his birth on it. The only family bible I have like this, so a valued possession!

Have you looked at the 1939 register entry for that birthdate.  His marital status does not support a 1921 marriage unless he divorced

He married someone called Mary Woods 'May' Silcock|Farrants in 1921, although the electoral rolls show them living together as 'married' in 1918. They separated between 1922 and 1929. She had been married before in 1894 but seems separated from Thomas Clark Farrants by 1901. TCF went to Australia with at least one of their two sons (who was killed at Gallipoli in 1915) and TCF died in 1938. I wonder if maybe the marriage between Walter and May was bigamous.
