Boolburra Queensland.
« on: Thursday 26 October 23 16:02 BST (UK) »
Hello.

I am looking for some information on John and Susan Pattel who are buried in Boolburra cemetery.
A photo appears on findagrave  showing the fact they died on the same day " accidentally drowned" in 1908.

The name Ricketts is added to the bio online but Susan's maiden name was Rickwood.
Can anyone please point me at a news clipping if there is one to find out what happened to them. They died aged 82 and 81 years.

Many thanks.

 Tazzie

How sad. They had quite an adventure to get there and I hope a good life. Their daughter Emily my 2x great grandmother was married when they left but stayed in England so probably never saw them again. I some how never followed this line further other than ancestral lines, now I have more to look into and will follow Emily's siblings and their lives in Australia.

Many thanks for the quick response Neale.

Arriving Rockhampton on the “Suffolk” 14 Nov 1874
John Pattel   47
Susan Pattel   41
George Pattel   20
John Pattel   17
Joseph Pattel   12
William Pattel   10
Frederick Pattel   8
Charles Pattel   3
Annetta Pattel   infant - she died 26/03/1875

Looks to have been a frightening voyage

(It must have been difficult to leave a child in England, even though she was married.)

It looks like some of the children could not quite remember their mother’s maiden name.

George Pattel - died 13/01/1942  (mother - Suzanne Ricketts)
Joseph John Pattel - died 19/07/1920  (mother - Susan Ricket)
Frederick Pattel - died 23/07/1949  (mother  - Susan Rickwood)

Good morning.

There were 3 older children, Thomas died young 1847-1852. Elizabeth 1849 birth registered as Paddle mmm Rickwood . She married George Maslen in 1872 and my Emily who married Thomas Fitzjohn.

The journey must have been frightening with a small baby I wonder what persuaded them to leave and take on a new life so far away. They were a family of ag labs in Fordham, so a chance of a better life would interest them. John and Susan died in their eighties so possibly longer than it they had stayed and carried on the old life.
