Special Constables Hastings
« on: Saturday 28 October 23 00:34 BST (UK) »
Is there anywhere you can look up listings of Special Constables in Hastings.

Searching for a Patrick Sothern/Southern b about 1910 give or take 5 years possibly originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Was married, unsure who to and possibly had two children. Lets just say he was living a bit of a double life.

Was in Hastings c1945-49 then left to be either a Special Constable or Policeman in Liverpool c1948-49.

Just cant find anything on this fella. Hes a missing puzzel piece to connect my Family (dna) to a Lady. Was hoping to find something on him as a Special Constable to work backwards.

Was Patrick his middle name, there is not a Patrick Southern/Sothern registered 1900-1920.

There is a Patrick Southern who marries Ann L Aston 1945 registered Salisbury

It should be pointed out, that Hastings is in Sussex, not Surrey. ;)

All I have on him Im afraid.

Its a bit of a long convoluted story really but basically someone contacted me a while ago and her DNA puts her to a 1-2nd Cousin to my Mum and 2-3rd with myself.

She didnt know her Father, only a name, Patrick 'Paddy' Southern/Sothern. She was adopted at birth, no Fathers name on certificate, just what she was told. She has been searching for years to find who he was, then we came up with close DNA to my Mum and myself. The Lady actually looks like my Mum! First breakthrough in years.

My Great Gran married a Sothern, but as far as I know had no children with him so the Surname Sothern, have no DNA connection to my Family.

Her DNA matches are from my Granddads side so my Great Gran who married a Sothern. They actually lived Newcastle Upon Tyne. Just bizarre that the name Sothern came up but at this point no DNA connection to Sothern on my side.

Elizabeth had from 1st marriage Ashcroft children, then my Granddad, McGurk (he never knew his Mum) then she raised sisters children Clarkson, married 3rd Husband Sothern, no children. So, Im wondering if one of them gave a false name on meeting this Ladies Mum as he was already married, Ladies Mum was unaware at the time until she fell pregnant thats apparently why he took off to Liverpool.

Also her husband, Myles Sothern couldnt be the Father to this Lady as he died well prior to her Birth.

Just was hoping somehow to find some Special Constable listing perhaps as she was told he was in Hastings then went to Liverpool apparently c1948.

I know its a bit of a needle in a haystack but you never know and yep, long and convoluted surrounding my Great Gran lol.

1939 register
The Myles Sothern is 49 years old   he died 14 December 1946 Probate 1947.
The Elizabeth Sothern  is 50
Frederick Clarkson is 14

This Elizabeth is too old to have children.

The Lady knows who her Mother was, so correct, Elizabeth not her Mother and Myles died well before she was born so he is not the Father.

Patrick Southern/Sothern is the name given to this Lady by her Mother but doesnt appear to be anything on him.

Who ever he was, he must somehow be connected through my Great Gran Elizabeth Ann BELL-Ashcroft-McGurk-Sothern as the surname Sothern at this point is only connected to me via my Great Grans 3rd Husband, marriage only, no DNA link as no children with him.

Hopefully I solve it one day.
