GRO Indexs on line
« on: Saturday 28 October 23 16:26 BST (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone know what you get on a 'digital copy' of a GRO Index birth.  The birth of W.C. Digby was registered in Pontypridd and I wondered if it would state the actual place of birth (eg home address).

anything and everything to do with the village of Brithdir, near New Tredegar in Gwent.

Hi, you get exactly the same as you would on a certificate, where the information is reproduced.

However, it is copied onto a blank certificate, which if it is not lined up properly, will mean that you wont be able to read all the info clearly - but for an instaneous £2.50 probably worth a try.  If unclear you can go down the usual route or ordering the actual certificate.

... and if there is missing information chopped off, it is easy to request a refund of the fee on line. I've done that a few times now.

Hi

I've ordered quite a few of these copies and the information has been very variable.

Sometimes it has given a house number and street; sometimes just the street; sometimes just the general area of the town; and sometimes just the name of a village if the birth was somewhere very small.

Thanks for the info,
I have carried out research into Digby's war service.  His parents were at Pontardawe prior to moving to Nelson and I suspect that is where Wilfred was born, just wanted to be sure.
