The Britton family
« on: Saturday 28 October 23 19:39 BST (UK) »
Need some help.  According to the 1911 census Robert and Sarah Ann Britton had 4 children which one had died.

The living children are:  Mary Sophia born 1863 Bristol Gloucestershire. Albert born 1867 Kensington and George Samuel born 1870 Kensington.

I have found 2 birth entries but neither child death entry can I find  Mary Ellen born 1861 Keysham Bristol and Caroline born 1865 Clifton Bristol

Should of mentioned the family moved to Fulham sometime between 1865 and 1871.

Any help would be appreciated

What was Sarah’s maiden name?    Do the birth entries you found tie in with the maiden name?

Are either of those children on the 1871 census?

Sarah was nee Hawkins - marriage wasn’t until Dec qtr 1862 so Mary Ellen must have been born before the marriage if she was b 1861

Strangely - Mary Ellen was b Dec qtr 1861 Keynsham & there is a death of a 29yr old Mary Britton in the same qtr & RD  but no 1861 entry living in that RD

The only thing I can think of is those 2 children died within minutes of being born.  If a child is born alive but dies immediately afterwards - the birth has to be registered as a live birth.

I can’t say with any certainty if the same applied to a death reg
