Nathan Gibson a Lead Miner 1841
« on: Sunday 29 October 23 00:15 BST (UK) »
Many years ago I discovered this possible relative in the 1841 census on IOM. I now can't afford a subscription to look again. Can any kind person pinpoint him and maybe expand on any more of his life ? He was with a similar aged female , can't remember if they were married. Thank you.

On the same page FreeBMD possible marriage September 1/4 , 9 reg dist Ulverston vol 25 page 107
Nathan Gibson and Christian(n)a Fisher
GRO index birth reg for an Anthony Gibson mother's maiden name Fisher Sept 1/4 1840 vol 24 page 18 reg dist Auckland Union BUT
there is another birth reg for an Anthony Gibson  same 1/4, same year, same reg district vol 24 page 15 but with mother's maiden name Maddison.
There is a marriage in 1838 with a Joseph Gibson and a Mary Ann Maddison on the same page registration district Weardale Co Durham.

I said " There is a marriage in 1838 with a Joseph Gibson and a Mary Ann Maddison on the same page registration district Weardale Co Durham. "

This marriage could account for the second registration of an Anthony Gibson. Maybe Joseph could be a brother of Nathan and they named their sons after their father? Pure speculation at this stage  :)

Added - The name for Nathan's wife on the 1841 cesus is definitely Joanna on the original image but I think the enumerator may have made the mistake as their is a Joanna Robinson wife of Robert Robinson in the entry prior to Nathan's entry.

Thank you so much Crisane. If Anthony is their father's name, then this is the wrong avenue for my ancestor. I hoped it would be Nathan/Nathaniel. He was in Disdow near Carsphairn Kirkcudbright (lead mines). Two daughters christened there in 1820s. Ah unless he was a brother of Anthony ! Thank you for your time and expertise.

Isle of Man, Select Births and Baptisms, 1821-1911
father Nathan Gibson
Spouse- Christiana Fisher
Child   - Elizabeth Gibson

1861 census RG9 Piece 3950 Folio 9 page 11
Nathan Gibson   50 Head Coal miner born Stanhope Durham
Christian Gibson 39 Wife Whitehaven, Cumberland,
Anthony Gibson 20 Coal miner Evenwood, Durham
Mary H Gibson 14 Lidgate, Durham,

Probably not your your ancestor then. A tree on ancestry, with sources has Nathan's parents as Ralph Gibson and Elizabeth Race.

FamilySearch.org is free!
You have to register, then use Search/Records and set country to Isle of Man or England, depending on whether you are searching BMD events (use IOM) or Census (use England).
