Elizabeth & Mary WOOD, late 17th C
« on: Sunday 29 October 23 14:21 GMT (UK) »
Elizabeth and Mary WOOD were baptized in Wacton on 18 Apr 1686 to parents Matthew & Elizabeth. It appears that this couple later baptized Matthew (11 Jul 1695) and Thomas (19 Dec 1698), also in Wacton. So, when and where did did Matthew & Elizabeth marry?

The only marriage of a Matthew WOOD which I can find that is anywhere close in both time and place is:-

03 Mar 1684   Matthew WOOD m  Sarah ????   in Wacton

Date and location are absolutely perfect, but Sarah? As far as I can make out, Sarah and Elizabeth are not synonyms, but I'd be delighted if someone could assure me otherwise! Alternatively, point me towards the correct marriage.

All and any help will be much appreciated.

The only marriage I can find in the whole of England which just might fit the bill is:-

19 Dec 1686 Matthew WOOD m Elizabeth POYNTER  in Stepney

but this is a bit dodgy timewise, and some 115 miles away!

Before that, there are:-

1671 Norfolk 175 miles
1665 Middlesex 115 miles
1656 Essex 130 miles, and
1654 Norfolk again

Only the Middlesex couple appear to have had any offspring - 11 between 1666 and 1683, including what appear to be 3 sets of twins. The Wacton couple, whose marriage I've been unable to find, also baptized twins in 1686.

Could this mean that the Middlesex and Wacton couples are, in fact, the same people?
