I wonder if this is a way forward??

There is a following baptism at Hartest adjacent to Somerton which could explain why Susan Butcher who married William Sadler in 1793 also used the surname Candler for the baptism for some of her children?   This is only a transciption but her father appears to only be named by his surname Candler so could her father have been an elder brother on your Samuel Candler or even a precocious Samuel Candler  :-\

Susan Butcher
Father's first name(s)    -
Last name    Candler
Mother's first name(s)    Susan
Baptism date    09 Oct 1768
Parish    All Saints
Record set    Suffolk Baptism Index 1538-1911
Place    Hartest
County    Suffolk

I presume this might be Susan and husband William plus son in 1841 living in Somerton

William   Sadler   75   Ag Lab Suffolk
Susan   Sadler   70  Suffolk
James   Sadler   35

I think you may have the solution.  Samuel's older brother (George 1748-1822) was born in Hartest and did not marry until 1774 in Somerton.
Thank you
