Diary summary week ending 5th November
« on: Monday 30 October 23 06:36 GMT (UK) »
Good morning  folks

Hope  all is well with everyone

We have had plenty of rain over the last few days, but we are lucky as some have been badly affected.

Up very early this morning,  think the hour is taking effect, up so early  think I might even squeeze an extra meal in, only joking, trying to put breakfast off for an hour or so,.

People around have decorated their houses for Halloween,  never really taken much notice before but it seems a big thing now, me, well , for 31st  am in, won't answer the door to anyone but I think nowadays youngsters will only knock on doors where there are signs that they are taking part, .

Enjoy your day folks

Never liked Hallowe'en or bonfire night - perhaps it's the general dreariness of this time of year? I put a nice laminated notice on the front porch window, requesting no "Trick or Treat" visits. Usually works - might be the evil witch on it??

I, too, put out the notice in the porch AND just to be on the safe side I make sure that the door is locked!  Not very sure that this is necessary these days as I don't think we have any youngish children in the road.  However, I do acknowledge the time of year by putting my "autumn" display in that area - toadstools, elves, pumpkins, autumn leaves, acorns etc. - an idea I collected from trips to Belgium many years ago and most of the items bought there and in Northern France.  Spring display is Easter eggs (plastic and bought in Belgium/France) and these also adorn the tree in my front garden, summer is my sunbathing mermaids and then of course, Christmas.  Oh dear, better get on with making the Christmas cards  :-X

I have a feeling nowadays if you don't have any  signs up you won't be bothered, I used to do it till I had a group of teenagers,  had no idea where they came from but they took the lot, never again

No need for a notice :D
I live in a flat in an old Victorian Town House.
The intercom system has never worked!

So there is no way for any visitors to contact the residents!
Those who need to come in, ring the resident first.

I don't answer the door after dark unless expecting someone. They never seem to bother me. It takes me a while to get to the door so they would probably give up waiting anyway.

I’m very unsociable and make sure there’s no lights showing at the front of the house when it’s this time of year. ( our lounge is across the back of the house. ) Mind you there’s not many young families on our estate now , we’ve all been here many years and stayed put!

We have stayed put, it was a new estate and we had lots of young families  when we moved here, many have moved on or sadly passed away, a few young families have moved in but we don't see a lot of them, I will  batten down the hatches , only have one set of lights on and won't answer the door, I don't have any signs out to encourage anyone to  call

Fortunately we live in a small village so don’t get lots of children coming round… not that I’d encourage those who do live here. There’s usually a note that comes round with a pumpkin picture that you can put in the window of you don’t mind callers… nothing this year do either no one’s organised it or there are no small children!
I’ve never liked the idea much and it certainly wasn’t something that was popular when my children were younger now 46 & 48!
My grandsons dress up and they visit their friends homes and those in the cul de sac they live in and my daughter goes with them, living in Ealing not wise to let them go out on their own.. they love it all and the houses in the road all decorate the gardens and outside! I expect I’ll get sent a couple of pics tomorrow!
