1851 Census
« on: Monday 30 October 23 15:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have a transcript of the 1851 Census for Sarah Finlay, born c 1795 Ireland, living at 28 South Coburg St, Gorbals.
On it she is shown as Wife. Is it possible for someone to check the actual image to see if her husband James is also shown, on the off chance the family has been wrongly listed. He seems to have disappeared in 1851, although there may be a very outside chance he was at sea.

Many thanks. Eric.

By checking the SP index, without spending any money, I can see a Sarah Finlay aged 56 years at the reference 1851/644-2/91/2.
There doesn't seem to be a corresponding man of similar age. Quite a lot of what may be children though.
James aged 34.
Mary aged 32.
Elizabeth aged 27.
Robert aged 22.
William aged 17.
Sarah aged 13.

Mary aged 32 could possibly be the wife of James aged 34.

The husband may well have been at sea, the Gorbals was a seafaring district.

Hi. Many thanks. That's the info I've got off Ancestry. Sarah is shown as Wife, so presumably the husband is around somewhere. I was wondering if it was a transcription error and he had been missed off or whether he is somewhere working.

Never mind. Thanks anyway.
