confusing marriage details 1794
« on: Monday 30 October 23 21:51 GMT (UK) »
I am confused about a wedding that took place in June 1794 between James Gameson and Martha Jones. The various genealogy sites (original digitised or transcription) on the Internet variously give the place as Llandaff, Trevethin and Wolvesnewton, on 23rd and 24th June. Can you think of any logical explanation?

Just guessing, haven't checked.  If they married by licence because one of them came from the parish of Trevethin and the other from the parish of Wolvesnewton, the marriage licence would have been issued by the diocese of Llandaff.  The most likely place of marriage would have been the bride's parish.

There is a marriage record on FindMyPast (not the actual record signed by the couple, but I suspect the BT) which confirms it was by licence.
And the date a day earlier that you mentioned could be the date the licence was issued
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
