Elizabeth Goodman (1895 - 1968)
« on: Tuesday 31 October 23 21:11 GMT (UK) »
I'm seeking any information on one of my ancestors, Elizabeth Goodman. I know that she was born in Liverpool in 1895, married Maxwell Innes in Greenwich in 1928, and died in 1968. I understand that her father's name was Edward Goodman (1868 - 1934) and that he worked as a blacksmith, but that's all I know. I would love to learn more about her life and lineage, and would be very grateful for any help!

Where did you find the information about Elizabeth being born in Liverpool? There is no birth registration around that time in Liverpool area.

There is an Elizabeth daughter of Edward a blacksmith in West Ham

Think you have her death slightly wrong

Elizabeth Innes
Death Age    76
Birth Date    1 Dec 1895
Registration Q4 1972     Greenwich Vol 5b, p1009

the dob matches Elizabeth married to Maxwell and living in Greenwich in 1939

Thank you both so much. The dates and places were passed on to me by relatives, so there is a chance they might not be accurate. It would definitely make sense for her to have spent time near Stratford as I have several photographs of her from a portrait gallery there.

Not that I've found Edith's first marriage yet.

Edward Eaton married Sarah Goodman 1 Oct 1844 in March, her father noted as Grounds Goodman. So this should be the baptism of her sister Mary, mother of James

Thanks again for all your help. I’ve loved learning more about the lives of Elizabeth’s family. I’m currently researching her great-grandmother, Mary Goodman, born in Cambridge in 1823 to Grounds Goodman and Phoebe Smith. I understand from the 1841 Census that she was living in Brands Farm at this time, and in 1844 she had a son, James, out of wedlock. He grew up with her sister, Sarah, but I haven’t been able to discover what happened to Mary next – I can’t find a later
Census entry or a record of her death or burial. If anyone has any advice on where to look next, I would be very grateful!

Was Mary widowed at the time or unmarried or?  You could look for a marriage for her after James was born.  She could have married and moved away and died under another surname.

Have you ruled out the Mary Goodman death in 1850?
