Hi,

Re image do not think the two words under Sarah's name have been crossed out.  It would appear that the vicar was attempting to explain something. On the opposite page he clearly indicates and illegitimate birth see entry for Mary Kyte "ill. child of Eliabeth"

The bpt.,of Anne in Denby is also not recorded as illegitimate, where as others with only a mothers name are.

Have tried to look at Bishops Transcripts for Smalley on Family Search, but unfortunately the year we need 1826 is not available on line yet.

You could appeal for anyone going to Matlock Record Office to look at original register.

Hi,

Have found Joseph, he joined the Army 15th January 1828, arrived India 10th June 1828.

All match, occupation, birth place, correct name

It is still possible he was the Father of Thomas 1826 but probably not of Anne 1829.

If you have access to Ancestry search

UK, Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900

I am not good with Army Records, but there must be others for him.

Thanks very much again for all this. Have now had a look at the record and yes the occupation and place all seem to match up. But as yet I can find no more about Joseph Woolfitt beyond 1828!
