Fanny Lizzie Saunders
« on: Wednesday 01 November 23 20:10 GMT (UK) »
Fanny Lizzie Saunders was born 3Q 1872 Luton to James and Caroline (nee Howard) Saunders.
81 census Fanny 47 Rothesay Rd
91 census Fanny E 49 RothesayRd
01 Census Daisy 49 Rothesay Rd
11 census Daisy 49 Rothesay Rd
21 census Frances 49 Rothesay Rd
In all these census she is the daughter of James and of the right age to be the same person, in 1939 Frances E. Saunders birth 23 Aug 1872 living at 49 Rothesay Rd.
Frances E or Frances Elizabeth appears at that address until 1951.
There is a will of Frances Elizabeth Nov 1954 same address
Am i right in thinking they are the same person?

Fanny is a corruption of Frances & Lizzie is a corruption of Elizabeth

Although she was registered as Fanny Elizabeth she may have decided to "refine" her names but why Daisy - who knows 🙄🙄

Yes - it's the same family/person.  Her 1939 occupation matches 1911

Have a look at this

There is a baptism at Clifton Bedford for Fanny Elizabeth Saunders - parents James & Caroline - but on 28.4.1872???

1889 marriage for Fanny Elizabeth Saunders to Frederick Alfred W Meehan

1901 shows Fanny Meehan b Clifton Bedfordshire 1872??

1881 has her as  Elizabeth with parents James & Caroline

I agree, the same person, though "Daisy" does seem to come out of nowhere! There must be a reason ...

For interest, you may know this already:
"Mr. J. SAUNDERS of Rothesay-road, Luton, straw hat manufacturer, who died on April 16, left estate of the gross value of £1,103, with net personality of £522. He left:-
His collection of Mycetoza to the Trustees of St. Albans Museum."

(Mycetoza being slime mould  ;D )

I didn't realise - he was well regarded in geology and botany.

"Mr J. Saunders
Mr. James Saunders, who passed away at Luton yesterday at the age of 86, was a well known authority on geology and botany. His collection of fossils unearthed during the making of the Great Northern and Midland Railways in the district are now in the Jermyn-street Museum, and his collection of British mosses at South Kensington. He was joint editor of "Science Gossip" now defunct, and published a volume on the field flowers of Bedfordshire."

I wonder if "Daisy" was a pet name for her given his interest in field flowers?

I've been looking at Beds Electoral Registers available on Ancestry for 49 Rothesay Road, Luton.  In 1921 it shows James, Emily & Daisy while the 1921 census records James (1839), Emily (1862)  & Frances (1871). After James dies 1925 the electoral registers has Emily & Daisy Saunders from 1926 through to 1930. In 1939 the electoral register has Frances Elizabeth Saunders which tallies with the 1939 Register.

Another finding is a newspaper report from the Luton Times of 3rd June 1910 regarding funeral of Edgar Saunders of Rothesay Road & lists mourners misses Emily & Daisy Saunders (sisters).

Regards John

Thank you everyone for your interest, the added finds make me certain they are all the same person. The information about James is interesting.
The marriage of a Fanny Elizabeth Saunders to Frederick Meehan which appears in many trees, is what started  this search fpr information since their facts didn't agree with some of mine
Thank you again Liz
