Search census by address New York 1925+
« on: Thursday 02 November 23 04:12 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction to search a census by address. I have subs to both Ancestry and Findmypast. I did look at Steve Morse's website, but got completely bamboozled.

I have Catherine Hanlon going to New York from England in 1925. She is going to her father, Michael Hanlon, at 229 East 95 Street, New York. Both Catherine and her father are in Liverpool in 1921. I can’t find Michael in the US at all. He seems to disappear.  He is mentioned in his mother's obituary in 1930 (she died in Ireland) as being in New York.

Michael was born in Armagh, Ireland in 1881.

Thanks
Shelley

Thanks for your reply.

No, that’s part of the trouble. It just says New York.

The death for that Katherine Nicklen nee Hanlon gives a date of birth as 18 March 1905

-----------------------
The Catherine O'Hanlon was baptised St Alphonsus Liverpool on 24 February 1905
Father Michael O'Hanlon
mother Marie O'Hanlon nee Traynor
God parents Thomas Traynor and Catherine Breen.

--------------------------------
The passenger list has stamped by her name "in hospital"   her arrival date 23 March 1925

So are you sure she was allowed to immigrate for example if she had TB should would not have allowed to stay.

If she sailed on the Carmania (arrived Apr 28, 1925) she was included on a “Record of Detained Aliens” form.  Catherine’s father is shown as Michael, 807? Columbus ave., NYC.  She was admitted 5/1, 10-  discharged 5/1, 1:30.

Thank you for checking, Erato. I don’t recognise any of those other names, either.

I do not see them at that address in Brooklyn or in Manhattan.
