Help please with Medal Cards and Dependents Pension
« on: Thursday 02 November 23 12:36 GMT (UK) »
Odd case - Members of our King's Liverpool Regt Forum posted photo of their Ancestor's CWGC Military Headstone showing Pte 75019  - O J Williams aged 28  Killed in Action 28 April 1919 in Belgium
and given King's Badge Headstone
But the CWGC states he was Transferred or Attached to the 86th Labour Corps as 51549

Can only find his Soldiers Effects for 51549 Owen John Williams Died 28 April 1919

Can't find any Medal Cards

Nor Dependents Pension Card for Widow Ellen and Children?

Any advice appreciated

No Jim1
It is 1919
Although it states Killed in Action- The Soldiers Effects states he appears to have shot himself

Ancestry has his name on UK WW1 Service Medal and Awards Roll - Labour Corps - Roll of Individuals entitled to the Victory Medal and/or British War Medal.

Labour Corps 51459  Private Jones Owen John  ..... 75019 Private Liverpool Regiment

There is only one pension record for him. It is under his LC number #51459 and gives the cause of death as 'Self inflicted GSW head, Belgium'

The card also gives NOK as his widow and there is a name of a child born in 1916.

Pity we don't know which King's Btn. he was in.
A possibility is that this was a request from his family.
He may not have gone  into the L.C. until the end of war &
putting his attestation Regt. was more appropriate.

The web site 'The Long, Long Trail' shows that service number 51459 was in a block of numbers (51001 to 51600) issued to men of the 21st Infantry Labour Company (formed from men of the Liverpool Regiment). The 21st ILC became the 86th Company of the Labour Corps. This means that he was transferred before the end of the war.
