1867 William and Anne Brown christened 11 children two months apart?
« on: Thursday 02 November 23 23:29 GMT (UK) »
How is it possible for one couple (maybe two) to christen 11 children on two dates one month apart?
In search of my own Brown relatives in London, England, I came across sources for a couple William and Anne Brown who christened 11 children in Clapton, Middlesex, England, on two different dates one month apart in 1867.
20 Jul 1867 – Annie, Charles, Edward, Emily, Thomas
24 Aug 1867 – Elizabeth, Frederick, Henry, Mary, Robert, William
(I put them in alphabetical order but they could be born in any order)
With the names being so common and with no ages, I’ve not been able to figure out their GRO birth registration index entries.
I’ve tried finding them or the children in censuses. Everything I’ve followed through hasn’t worked out.
I have the couple in FamilySearch with sources as GG93-29B William Brown and GG93-G59 Anne.
Here’s a link to one of the children, KJVK-KVC Annie Brown chr 20 Jul 1867:

Where The Record Is Found (Citation)
"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975", database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NNWC-Z81 : 4 February 2023), William Brown in entry for Annie Brown, 1867.

Can anyone see the source images (do they show the childrens’ ages?)
Are there other sources/clues for this family?
Thank you for your help.

I've come across this in my family in Scotland. If the same, they'll probably all be different ages. I can't remember if a charge was made for christening but mine were all done at once in a job lot.
Alternatively, ( re british-history.ac.uk ) there was The London Orphan's Asylum in Clapton, opened in 1825. I would wonder if they were from there. That's a lot of surviving children for the time.
A question for experts on 19c guardians duties to their charges, maybe ?
