Jane mystery.
« on: Sunday 05 November 23 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Cant figure this one out, any help is appreciated! I have a Jane Ellis b 1779 to " John and Jane" on the same page, there is a " William son of Richard and Jane"  Wellington. I cant find a marriage for either! Certainly not in Wellington. Also a Mary " mother Jane" 1777. Could the record be wrong?

There is a Richard Ellis Snr. of Wellington who marries Anne Griffiths at Wrockwardine 21 November 1774 by license.

Was Snr. a widower? re marrying by license.

John Ellis married Jane Morrall 8 January 1750 at Wellington

Hi
The Mary 1777 mother Jane is illegitimate.
She has a sister Jane 1.12.1782.

John and Jane's brood
Anne Oct 1751,John 26.5.1754,Jane Nov 1756 ,Thomas 22.10.1758-21.1.1761,Mary June 1761,Thomas Feb 1764 ,Anne 17.1.1767 and then a big gap to Jane 11.7.1779 and Richard 13.5.1781.

Thanks. I have records for that family. I dont think the last two belong to John and Jane tho as there is an 11 year gap? Also Jane would have been in her 50s! Still cant see any marriage tho.

I,m wondering if a special licence was required for single mums before they marry?

At a later date, i see a Richard and Jane having several kids starting 1803. This must be the Richard born to John and Jane? I,m beginning to think he married his sister!
