In the 1891 census the surname seems to have been transcribed as O Cani in the case of Cornelius and Cani for the rest of the family. Cornelius now is showing as a labourer in shipyard while Mary is showing as a grocer.

Mary appears to have died not long after Cornelius. There is a death notice for him in the Sunderland Echo and Shipping Gazette 10 March 1899 ( he died the day before).

Mary's death notice is in the Sunderland Echo 26 May 1899 " At the infirmary on the 25th inst., aged 52 years, Mary, beloved wife of the late Cornelius O'Cain. Internment at Sunderland Cemetery on Sunday".
