Brisbane Australia
« on: Wednesday 08 November 23 19:40 GMT (UK) »
Good evening,
I have just received a will tonight for my Great Aunty. She died in 1994.
On her will it records an address in Brisbane, Australia for her daughter and her daughters two children, all thought to be alive.

Only issue is the will places her at the address almost 30 years ago. Is there any way of looking for people that are alive in Australia, or any local newspapers in the area in which I could potentially contact to try and track her down.

Many Thanks

Michelle Peters

As your aunt is deceased you might like to post her name and date of death.  There may be probate records which you could access or newspaper notices which may help locate the people you are seeking, which may give some clues to other R'chatters to help you, although R'chat is not keen for people to search out those still living.

The Queensland Library also has a very helpful "Ask a Librarian" service. They could possibly do a newspaper or electoral roll look up for you.

You could also try writing a letter to them at the last known address. The daughter may have remained there for a number of years afterwards, or could in fact still be there.

As well as the previous suggestions, if this were my family, I would have a look at the address on google maps. Many houses have been demolished since the 90s and the properties redeveloped. If you find a very modern house at the address, it is likley that the family sold and moved elsewhere.

Though there is not information about all residential properties, putting the address into inverted commas and doing an internet search often comes up with recent sales which you might tally with the will. Domain.com.au is one site that comes to mind, though that usually comes up close to the top of the results if you do a general address search.

Googling people’s names in inverted commas, and adding a suburb or city sometimes throws up the right person.

When did great aunty write the Will....the date at which the information about daughter and grandchildren is relevant?
