Thank you so much for finding these! Is Oscar another middle name or surname? The Swedish last names are really confusing to me.

I see there is a J. F. ? Pettersson near his name. Tucked into the notebook was also a card with that name and another small picture.

You're welcome.
Oscar is just another middle name.
Swedish surnames just follow the patronymic system.

In Carl's case it is a little more confusing it seems. Although his father's name is Jöns, it should read Carl Gustaf Oscar Jönsson, but instead he took Johansson. I have seen this a lot. Johansson seems more natural it appears.

I do think it is strange that he had written "förglömt" - forgotten, over his surname Johansson in one of the images. It feels he was running from something although he kept Johansson in USA.

I've redone page 2. On the left of the hyphen is the Swedish word as he wrote it. On the right is the modern English word. I don't know what he wrote as translation of hamn.
