Hi  thank you William Greaves is just admin so no will, The James who died in Wales belongs to the family of Collinge & Lancashire who had a huge mill in Oldham.
There is a Caroline Collinge buried at St Peters in 1832 age 4 of Greenhill who I thought belonged to our couple.
When I looked for a gravestone there was no Caroline but a Marianne aged 18 in 1832 daughter of James and Betty but no burial?? The stone said Betty died in Wales in 1855 very odd, so Caroline belonged to the mill family. In 1881 Betty Greaves is at 12 Lees Road as Elizabeth so I will check out that burial later when I have a minute although  her mother was  Hilton before marrying Betty's father. It's a right mix up. I was looking for where James Collinge died 1870 could be buried. There is a Betty Collinge died 1870 buried in Chadderton but she was the wife of Adam a pawnbroker, another dud certificate
Thank you

I am also confused with these people.

You mention Betty Collinge - is that James Collinge’s wife?
Is your James the older or younger one who died in 1870?
James b Thornham /Royton
1861 3009 /30/53
James and Betty living in Lord Street, Oldham
In 1841 and 1851 they are at Rhodes Bank.

You would think though, that his death would be registered in Oldham Below Town rather than Royton.
Burials Shaw

December 10th 1870
James Collinge, 46 yrs - abode Stoneyfield.

This James, who died in Crompton is probably the son of Hannah - residence Stoney Field (Crompton) in 1861.

Hi yes the older James is ours, he was originally from Royton.
The Betty Greaves at Bertha Street in 1888 is not her, she was the wife of John who was first in the grave in 1867.
I feel sure she will be buried at Shaw with her husband and children but no death to match her, her eldest daughter lived at Chorlton on Medlock, but then in one census they are transcribed as Green! Thank you

Got Betty on the third attempt, died January 28 1885 and buried at Shaw aged 64, she was actually 6 years older. This family are a nightmare with ages, her youngest brother was born 1821,killed in an accident in 1856, his burial says 36, death certificate says 34 and newspaper report says 26!

That’s good news that you have your Betty/Elizabeth.

I asked Oldham Register Office if the James 46 and James 64 was the same one mixed up and they said 64 is actually Jane, a mistranscription. So that explains that one.
