I've been looking for the baptism of Ann HILL, father Joseph. In the whole of England, the only instance I can find is:-

26 Jan 1657 (birth date)  in Blagdon, Somerset

The year agrees with that found by 'garstonite' and, accepting that Joseph was 'the Rev'd', the location is not a problem.

The Blagdon record does not give the mother's name, but there is no reason to doubt that, as stated in the Joseph's Will, she was Agatha FOXE.

Further to my last posting, there is now reason to discount the baptism of Anne in Blagdon. Further investigation shows that Joseph HILL and his wife, Elizabeth, baptized 5 children in Blagdon between 1646 and the burial of Elizabeth in 1662, with Joseph subsequently baptising at least one more child with his new wife, Grace.

The hunt for children of Joseph & Agatha continues!

Regretfully, after all the work you've done, I think we're back to square one, needing to know the parents of Ann HILL. We know she married John DREWE in Canon Frome on 09 May 1687 so, presumably, was born ca 1666. A search based on those facts has thrown up:-

09 Jul 1665  Anne  dr of Richard & Anne HILL  in  Colwall

With Canon Frome, Bosbury and Colwall being so close, I believe that this is the answer to my problem. Does that seem reasonable?

Surely, Ann Hill was the daughter of Joseph Hill and Agatha, as is indicated by their wills (see reply #3 above).

The only Agatha & Joseph HILL that I can find seemingly never left Blagdon, so how can we reconcile these apparently contradictory facts?

Perhaps you haven't found the right Joseph Hill and Agatha.  I see in the notes above you refer to Joseph as a Reverend, but his will doesn't seem to mention that, so it may be a different Joseph Hill.  Blagdon is many miles away.

Agatha's will names a number of children and grandchildren, so they may help.  Agatha seems to have been in Bromyard from 1691-1709, at least.  Joseph died there.  Have you checked whether Joseph Hill and Agatha were married there, or Ann baptized there?  Otherwise, somewhere nearby perhaps.

You're right - there must be some duplication. I'll dive in and have another look.

Familysearch has a note of the marriage of Joseph Hill and Agatha Fox at Stretton Grandison, Herefordshire, 12 February 1648.  It is very close to Canon Frome and Bosbury.
