Missing birth record

My 3rd great grandma Clara Sarah Birkett has no birth record. She was born circa 1862 to parents William Birkett and Sarah Haywood in Nottingham. Her sister Kate is registered, so why wouldn’t Clara be? Her mother did die in 1862 (to my knowledge, as William remarried in 1869 and had essentially sent his 2 daughters to live with grandparents). Clara has a baptism record and everything else to do with her is recorded under her name. It’s been bugging me ever since I began  :/

Kate was born in the December quarter 1861 and Sarah died in the December quarter 1862.  Do you have her death certificate?  I would say she died in or soon after childbirth and that seems to be a good enough reason for the birth registration to have been neglected.  Clara is not with her sister and grandparents in 1871.

This does appear to be Clara but no Kate?

As Dundee (Debra) mentioned Sarah seems to have died not long after Kate’s birth. As it was not compulsory to register births until after the 1874 Act, which came into effect 1st January 1875, the family were not legally required to register a circa 1862 birth.

I did purchase Sarah's death record, which shows she died from peritonitis (as a secondary illness mind) - probably a pregnancy complication
Shame.
