Unfortunately the Menin Gate is being renovated & they had to hold the ceremonies on the bridge in front of the memorial.

The shops stayed open but do not do a lot of trade & the main street was closed off like it is every night for the 8 o'clock remembrance.

Yes when we lived in Belgium,The Last Post was played each evening by the local Fire Brigade, very smart in their dress uniforms.
The sound echoes and reverberates under the high arches.
So many missing soldiers !
How heartbreaking for their families .

The road through the memorial ,  The Menin Road- led to the front lines, and Hell Fire Corner had a marker stone but recently moved a little way to accommodate traffic!
