I found that but then nothing.
Did they stay in England?
He was a Coporal in the Royal Scots and they ended up in Hong Kong but not sure when

Is William Smith your connection?
Do you know if he survived?
If you read through this - 2nd Battalion to Hong Kong 1938. It’s very long but
it mentions the wives/families being moved to Australia.

This site https://wartimememoriesproject.com/ww2/allied/battalion.php?pid=1290 states that ‘ every officer and man of the Battalion were either killed, wounded or captured.’

I can’t see anything on War dead site - CWGC.

Do you know where he was born, his parents, etc.
If so, are there any clues there?

Sorry I didn’t mean to capitalise ‘he’.

Any clues there with family deaths, obituaries, newspaper articles etc?

Eileen Mary Weddell born 30 Dec 1909 had a father Alexander George was at 42 Strawberry Hill Road Twickenham, 1911 & 181 London Road, Twickenham 1921
She married David Gwynydd Howell 1935 https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/918513515:1623 and died as Eileen Mary Howell 1994.
So can discount that birth.

The only Edward Wad*l or Wed*l I see on the 1911 census with a seagoing occupation was a 17 year old Single man with the Navy in Malta. Nothing 1921 or the 1939.
There are no Ed* Wad*l or Wed*l on the 1901 or 1911 Irish Census.
There are no Ed* Wed*l on the 1901, 1911 or 1921 Scottish Census.
There are several Edward Waddells at various places in Scotland 1901, 1911, 1921.

You are not the first to make some of these checks.

However, it remains the case that OP never provided any information to support there being a connexion with Ireland. None whatsoever.

A wild goose chase.
