What a man
« on: Sunday 12 November 23 13:07 GMT (UK) »
My wife came across this photograph on a Facebook page yesterday. This is the type of ancestor that I think we would all like in our family tree :)

I actually came across that gravestone a few weeks ago, and took a photo of it to upload to Find a Grave. Not surprisingly, someone had already created a memorial to David.

I was on a short break to Norfolk and visited Great Yarmouth, where that gravestone is in the grounds of the Minster. As someone with a tree full of 'Agricultural Labourers' I felt quite jealous!

Several of my relatives were baptised and married in the Minster, and buried in that graveyard. I didn't find any headstones but I enjoyed being in a place with such significance for my ancestors.

I have one, AllanUK!!

Sgt Maj. John Craven b. 1777-1847.  Napoleonic Hero.  See "To the Call of Bugles" by Bill Openshaw of Alnwick Castle.  They have a wonderful display regarding their Percy Tenantry Volunteer Reserve and Bill's book takes the history of the PTVR from its very beginnings and before.  John's "CV" can be found in the 'Personnel' section of the book.  I, for one, am extremely proud of him!!

Wow! -- I can see copies of the book on a couple of online second hand book shops -- might splash out for a copy as I have a family link to Alnwick

I am surprised that there are second-hand copies already, it was only published in summer.  However, it's fascinating to read...very detailed, but very good at creating the pictures in your imagination.  Well worth it (I haven't finished it yet).  John is my 3XGGF.
