Thanks again Forfarian. I think I will put this in my 'to do' drawer. Not my top priority but next time I am up in Scotland then I would hope to look carefully. You have been a great help and it is very much appreciated.

Kall, I do indeed have Halbert Calvert and Margaret Johnstone in my tree. I haven't done much work on them yet but would be grateful for any information you may be able to help with. I have no knowledge of Orchard but am keen to learn where/what it is and if there are any sources.

I have no sources. Just the following unchecked details: a dob for Halbert on 29/12/1723 and for Margaret on 18th July 1735. Then a list of family for Halbert-

Father
John Calvert (1704–1757)

Mother
Janet Douglas (1703–1783)

Spouse
Margaret Johnstone (1735–)
Married 1754

Children
John (1755–1801)
Christian (1757–)
Margaret (1759–1830)
Jean (1761–1845)
Herbert (1762–1839)
William (1765–1801). * my ancestor
Edward (1767–1801)
Edward (1767–1849)
James (1770–1801)

I wonder if you have done a DNA test on Ancestry?

Thanks for all the help. Wonderful.

I added this Canonbie related case to the Cumberland board the other day. Just in the event that any Canonbie folks may be interested or it links to any Dumfriesshire interest:
