Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry in Mesopotamia 1916
« on: Sunday 12 November 23 19:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am trying to trace the footsteps of my husband’s 3 great uncles that were all killed in WW1.

One of whom was, Edward Richard Richardson, Company Sergeant Major 8903 of the 1st Battalion,Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry.

In August 1914, whilst stationed in Ahmednagar, India, the 1st Battalion of the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry came under the command of 17th Indian Brigade of 6th (Poona) Division, Indian Army.

On the 27 November 1914 the Division moved to Mesopotamia.

On the 29 April 1916, the battalion was captured after surrender of garrison at Kut-el-Amara.

The UK, Army Register of Soldiers Effects shows that CSM Richardson died in Tarsus 24 September 1916.

He is commemorated at the Bahgdad North Gate War Cemetery.

I note that Tarsus is on the Turkish coast and Kut-el-Amarais in the middle of Iraq. So this got my brain fizzing a bit!

I was hoping to find some details of the movements of the 6th Poona Division, to try and work out where he was and when, but there don’t seem to be any online diaries, as there are for the regiments on the Western Front and in Macedonia.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where I might be able to find information to help me work this little problem out please?

Yes..typo.
I have now managed to answer my,own question
https://wiki.fibis.org/w/Prisoners_of_the_Turks_(First_World_War)

Looks like the Turks marched their POW’s to Stria where they were then loaded on trains to Turkey.
There was a work camp at Tarsus.
What through me was that he is recorded as Killed in Action, not POW.
