John Braddon Chapman (South Australia)
« on: Monday 13 November 23 12:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi
In case you read this and know the answer ;D
You can't apply for copies of marriage certificates from South Australia after 1948.
John Braddon Chapman (28.10.1914 Glenelg - 1.1.1954 Adelaide) died a tragic death by stepping in front a bus in front of his wife Rita Mary.  Coronial inquest indicates they married in 1953 but I cannot locate her maiden name, she lodged a death notice as "Rita Mary".  John Braddon Chapman had married previously but had divorced her, Isabella Annie Crowhurst, in 1952.
Rita Mary might be Rita Mary Simpson but I cannot verify it.
Has anyone come across this family?
Many thanks for reading.
Regards
Stuart McDonald, Western Australia

This death notice (one of two) mentions "... brother in law of Eric" - ie. Rita Mary's brother?

Anyone can access SA birth, marriage death records provided the event occurred more than the required number of years ago ie, birth 100yrs, marriage 75yrs and deaths 30yrs. So called "historical" records,
If the event occurred less than the prescribed period specified, the availability to 3rd parties is restricted eg marriage

Thanks, if only it was that simple.  Eric being husband of John Braddon Chapman's sister.

A couple of snippets which you probably already have, and which don't really help.

I see there is no mention of Rita on his gravestone.

In the newspaper notice for his first marriage his forename is given as "Jack"

Thanks Judith.....the headstone was interesting and hadn't thought to seek it out before, but as you suggest, not that helpful for clues.

I hadn't, so thanks very much for the link, and not an unhandsome man either.
