Help with occupation
« on: Tuesday 14 November 23 11:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I am attaching a photo dating to c1880. Can anyone suggest what this man's likely occupation was from the way he is dressed?

Any help would be much appreciated

What country are we seeing?  Can you read the sign over the shop - what does it say?
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I though at first he was wearing a smock which would be pulled over his head but looking again I think he has straps over his shoulders holding up what might be a leather apron such as a blacksmith might wear.
The front of the apron is rolled up to free his legs.
His trousers look like they have sheen so may be made of leather. They have ties below the knee to take the weight off. Or to stop the rats getting up his legs.
