Vansickle, Phoenix
« on: Tuesday 14 November 23 19:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi all , in WW2 there was a GI who was based in South Wales UK. His surname was Vansickle and he met a young lady called Gloria. Not sure of her surname but could have been Jones. My second cousin had an address for them which was 3662 W. Lawrence lane Phoenix 85021. We don’t know if they married or hearsay said they may have moved to Australia. My second cousin was/ is her half brother. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Phil.

You can search the 1950 census here:   https://www.familysearch.org/1950census/

I took a quick and cursory look, but I didn't spot any plausible Gloria Van Sickels.

There is a Gloria Van Sickle from Great Britain who became a US citizen in 1967 in Phoenix.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/arizona-republic/135201627/

There are some Van Sickle men in the right age range in the Phoenix area, but I haven't matched any up to your Gloria or the address.

That looks like her Shelly. Does that mean their were no children then as they surely would have been with her.

Any children born in the United States would automatically be citizens regardless of their mother's nationality.

Erato, I can’t see any Van sickle births that fit here but could she have travelled to America years before being naturalised and had children there ?

Various Naturalisation papers give her name as Gloria June Dawn Van Sickle born 6 June 1930 in Lewes Sussex. She made an application for her Petition to be transferred from Washington State to Arizona. The following addresses are mentioned :
4617 S. Fawcett Tacoma Pierce Washington
4917 East Indian School Road Phoenix Maricopa Arizona
She states that she was admitted to the US for permanent residence May 28 1962.

There is a Gloria J D Jones 2Q 1930 Lewes 2B 225 mmn Dowling. She appears to have married in 1952 in Abergavenny but not to Van Sickle. She travelled to Singapore in 1955 as Gloria June Dawn Broadhead.

Gloria J D BROADHEAD arrived Seattle 28 May 1962 on Pan Am flight 123. This matches the date on the Naturalisation papers.
