Just found a death record for Frederick Lewis Hearson in 1912 in Brooklyn USA which gives his Mothers name as Sarah Statford.
Which could be a mispelling of Stratford or Stafford,
The plot thickens......
DAVIDSON - Boyndie, Ordiquhill, Fordyce, Gamrie, Botriphnie
BOOTH - Gamrie, Fyvie
GERRIE (GERRY) - Fyvie
SMOLLET (SMOLLETT, SMOUT, SMOWT) - Boyndie
MORISON (MUIRSON/MEARSON) - Ordiquhill
ROY - Mortlach
HEARSON - Lincolnshire & Sussex

I hadn't found Frederick Lewis Hearson before and I still can't find a birth record with his mmn on, only very basic birth details.

The GRO index has mother's maiden names.  Free to search, but you have to register.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

The reference for Frederick Louis HEARSON is Westminster Vol 1 page 325.

There are quite a few records in the US for the family that moved there, other census, death records etc.  :D

I also found a death record last night for one of the daughters, from memory it was Louisa, and it has her mother's name as Caroline. This is clearly wrong, as she was John's second wife, but is a reminder that death records are only as accurate as the informant knows.

However, STATFORD is certainly another name to investigate!

And back to John HEARSON who travelled to the US - he appears on a passenger list for the Switzerland arriving New York 28 Oct 1850. John HEARSON, 52, engineer. He seems to be alone.

Thank you again Maddy, I could not have found all these links without your help.
I'll follow them up over the weekend and see what new revelations I find.
I'll also register on the website you suggested. I didn't know about that one, so am excited at what I will find there.

One interesting thing I found was Mary Anne Hearson, who I thought might be the sister of John b. 1819 Stedham. She had 2 marriages (Atfield & Bowden) and lived in Stedham for most of her life. On one of the census she gave her birth place as Deeping, Lincs!

It's like putting a giant jigsaw together.
DAVIDSON - Boyndie, Ordiquhill, Fordyce, Gamrie, Botriphnie
BOOTH - Gamrie, Fyvie
GERRIE (GERRY) - Fyvie
SMOLLET (SMOLLETT, SMOUT, SMOWT) - Boyndie
MORISON (MUIRSON/MEARSON) - Ordiquhill
ROY - Mortlach
HEARSON - Lincolnshire & Sussex

It does seem like there should be some connection.  :D

Was looking for an obituary, but found these:
John HEARSON who went to the US - likely advertisement for his filing a patent for a Steam Gauge (in 1853)

And a reference to the steam gauge made by the "John Hearson company of New York" in 1903:

Didn't think to look at FreeReg earlier - there is this baptism at Deeping St James - 12 Feb 1798, John HEARSON, son of John and Mary.

Also a John HEARSON baptised at Spalding - 31 Mar 1771 (15 weeks old) son of John and Esther.
