Catholic schools in Carmyle 1930s
« on: Friday 17 November 23 11:12 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find out the names of catholic primary schools in Carmyle in the 1930s. I see there is one now called St Joachims but I don't know when that was established?

Hello smc8756 and welcome to RootsChat.

According to Hansard, approval for a new Catholic Primary School at Carmyle was given late 1960, presumably St Joachim's.

Although this wikipedia entry says St Joachim's was built in 1975.

Can't find anything yet on a Catholic School in the area in the 1930s. The wiki page seems to indicate that the Catholic Parish of Carmyle was not established until around 1954. Prior to this it was part of Tollcross.

There is a notice in 1934 that a new Primary School will be built in Carmyle in 1934. Presumably not a Catholic School.

"Lanarkshire Education Committee has issued schedules for the building of a new primary school at Carmyle, which it is estimated will cost £15,000."

Thankyou both for your replies. My late father grew up in Carmyle and I know he went to  catholic primary school so it is likely that it was in Tollcross.
