Stafford Road, South Lambeth 1897
« on: Saturday 18 November 23 12:46 GMT (UK) »
I have just received a Death Cert and my 2nd Great Grandmother died in the Infirmary at Brook Street Workhouse in November, 1897. The cert gives her address as Stafford Road, South Lambeth. I have been unable to find this road. Can anyone help, so that I can try and see if it was any area more of my relatives lived?
Thanks.

What names are you hoping to find in Stafford Road.

At the moment I'm just trying to find the road on a map. I guess that it has been renamed or is now gone.

1893 London Street map

On the 1901 Census it comes between Wynne Road and Thornton Street - and also mentions "Sorting Office""!

Brilliant, thanks, and that aligns with her previous address in nearby Robsart St. and close to where I lived in Kennington.
Stafford Road no longer exists. I could find where it was from Wynne Road.
Once again big thanks to everyone who has replied.

Is there anyone that can guide me to the address of the South Lambeth workhouse associated with Brook St Infirmary? So that I can check the list of inmates in 1891.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks for your help, Monica. The pictures were very useful and gave an idea of what the infirmary would have been like. I have tried to find those in the workhouse associated with the infirmary in 1891 but can't find the appropriate address. I would expect to see an address and then a long list of names. Pictures show the workhouse and admin block as in Renfrew Road but I have checked the whole road and can't find the inmate listing. The register for the workhouse is available but I think only by going to the Met Archives in person. If anyone can provide an further suggestions would be great.
