Anyone have any thoughts on how to find who might have purchased the house at auction from the Estate of Annie Grange.  She was my great grandfather's sister in law.  He came back and forth across the "pond" many times after he moved to United States.

I would try the Electoral registers or Rate books.  As a note - I don't think these are online yet for Ashton on Mersey.  But they will be in the local archives.

Thank you.  I live in US so that probably isn't an option, but thank you for your reply.

Hi, thanks for death info and census info.  They lived both at the Grand Junction Hotel at 141 Warde Street, as well as their home at THe Hollies.

The Hollies had a pipe organ in the house, my family has some pictures, unmarked of course, but am fairly certain they are of the Hollies.

I'd spotted a couple of mentions of Samuel at the Grand Junction Inn, Warde St (1876, 1879).

Yet to find the family on the '61 Census. A Walter Skaife Grange, parents Samuel and Jane, was baptised 1859, Manchester and a Walter Grange 1861. However, they are transcripts only - sight of the original might have provided residence at the time. There's also a transcript of the 1857 marriage - but again no sign of addresses.

Yes, Samuel Skaife Grange and Jane Skaife Grange were my 2x great grandparents.  They had 3 children, Walter, dying at about age 2.  Edwin, youngest, stayed home and went into the family business - publican.  The oldest son, Samuel Skaife Grange, came to USA and made several trips back and forth.  His son, Edwin "Ted" came over around 1900/1901 and lived with his uncle, Edwin or Ed as he seemed to like better.

Thanks again for all the suggestions and sites to check.
