Ernerst John Saunders Ogg (b. 1891)
« on: Monday 20 November 23 14:19 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to Ernest John Saunders Ogg.

Ernest Ogg was illegitimately born on 26th November 1891 at 46 Torphichen Street, St George, Edinburgh to John Ogg and Isabella Brown Webster who were both attendants at the Royal Asylum for the Insane in Edinburgh. Ernest was originally registered as Ernest John Ogg but was changed to Ernest John Saunders Ogg on 26th December 1892

Isabella Webster had two other illegitimate children:

John Webster Jack on 7th January 1882 in Monifieth, who was taken in by Isabella's parents Thomas Webster and Janet Knight and changed his name to John Webster.

Norman George Brown Webster on 28th March 1887 in Monifieth, who was adopted by John and Marion Douglas as stated in the 1891 census.

Isabella Brown Webster moved to England and married Albert Ernest Johnson in 1897 and had 4 children with him.

The only record I have of Ernest Ogg is his birth certificate.

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Wondering whether Ernest could also have been adopted?

If
first name was kept, there is this possible entry in 1901:

Richard Smith 45 Coal miner b. Saline, fifeshire
Christina Smith 43 b. Beath, fifeshire (maiden name may be Beveridge)
Thomas Smith 14 b. Crossgates, fifeshire
Ernest Smith 9 Adopted Son b. Edinburgh
Thomas Smith 77 father b. Polmont
Isabella Smith 62 Mother Crossgates, fifeshire (maiden name may be Brown)

Address Back Row, Dunfermline, Fife

Thank you Monica

This is a possible entry. His brother Norman was adopted by people from Dunfermline. I had a look at the Smith family Census for 1911 and Ernest doesn't appear, whereas the rest of the family are at the same address. I'll need to look into this further before adding anything to my trees.
