You might find it useful to look further to the godparents of John Bruce’s children.
I have had a quick look and added some information for you.

There are some papers regarding Charles Bruce’s pension for 38 year service as Serjeant in the Royal Horse Artillery

Charles Died 1853 Deptford, Kent

Jane Bruce (Bruss) bapt 24 Dec 1775 St Helier Jersey

Note FREELY godparents for John (1769) and Jane (1775)

•   William Freethy - master gunner - burial 7 June 1801 , Jersey St Saviour

William Bruce bapt 24 Jan 1779 St Helier Jersey
Godparents: Robert Easson, Alexander Bruce, Jane Bruce

The Godparent Alexander Bruce may have been a brother to John Bruce, and perhaps Jane was Alexander’s wife.
I found this – but don’t know if it is related to the above Alexander and Jane.
Burial in Deptford, Kent - 22 Oct 1820 - Alexander Bruce. Age 64 (rigger) Abode New Row.
Burial in Deptford - 21 Mar 1821 - Jane Bruce (widow). Age 73, Abode New Row.
