Rake Lane Cemetery Burials - CLAUS
« on: Tuesday 21 November 23 15:34 GMT (UK) »
I’ve been unable to find the registers for Rake Lane anywhere online and was about to email the cemetery office at Landican when I thought I should look on here, where I saw previous posts where kind souls have provided burial details for graves at Rake Lane, and I’m hoping that’s still possible.

I’m seeking confirmation of the burial of my 3G aunt Alice CLAUS (nee GIDMAN).

The headstone on Grave 105, Section 4C carries the following commemorations:

Ernest Parke CLAUS, died 24 Feb. 1920, aged 72;
Martha GRIFFITHS, died 9 Mar. 1921, aged 44;
Alice CLAUS, d. 14 Feb. 1927;
Frederic Victor CLAUS, d. 18 Aug. 1961, aged 64.

I’d like to know whether the above-named were buried there or just put on the headstone, and whether anyone else was buried in the grave. I’d also like to know the dates of burial if that’s not too much trouble.

Many thanks

As you have the plot & grave numbers - the Cemetary should be able to confirm if there are 4 bodies in the grave.  That is usually the maximum number in a private grave but sometimes a double plot may have been purchased

A big “Thank You” to everyone who responded, you’ve all been very helpful.

The registers revealed that the four burials were in two graves, but only one had a headstone that commemorated all four. How strange, I’m wondering how close the graves are; I’m going to have to visit the cemetery and take a look. I’ve contacted the cemetery office at Landican asking for details of any other burials in the graves.

There’s also a mystery about the burial of Ernest and Alice’s daughter, Martha, who was married to Jenkin David Griffiths, a Liverpool publican. He died just two months before she did and was buried in a grave owned by Martha in Allerton Cemetery. So, why wasn’t she buried with him? I’ll find out who else is buried in that grave too.

Why is it that one question always leads to another, often before you’ve answered the first one?
