Marguerite Lavigne wife of William Doucet in New Brunswick
« on: Thursday 23 November 23 02:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Could someone help me find the name of the parents and/or the death record of Marguerite Lavigne wife of William Doucet?

Here is what I know:

William is also known as Élie/Elias and Guillaume. His name is sometimes written as William X. Doucet or Guillaume X. Doucet (X. is in reference to his father's first name). He is the son of François Xavier Doucet and Marie Roy (married in Beresford on September 20th, 1847).

William and Marguerite were married on November 11th 1879 in West Bathurst and it is said that she is from Bathurst. The name of the parents are not mentioned.

On the 1881 census, it says that she is 25 years old (born around 1855-1856).

On the 1891 census, it says that she is 38 years old (born around 1852-1853).

On the 1901 census, it says that she was born on December 28th 1853 (47 years old).

On the 1911 census, it says that she was born in December 1855 (55 years old).

On the 1921 census, it says that she is 63 years old (born around 1857-1858).

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Hi amondg,

Thank you for answering my question. It is not impossible that she died in the USA, but William died in New Brunswick on February 21st, 1927. On the record it says that he is married and not a widower, which suggests that Marguerite died after 1927, but the married or widower statements are not always accurate.

Here is his death record

Hi Sandra,

I don't know in which cemetery William was buried. It only says in the catholic cemetery of Campbellton and there are a few catholic cemeteries in Campbellton. I tried a couple of times writing to American and Canadian churches and I had no answers from them.

Thank you,

Martin

Could this be her on 1871 census?

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4MK-M22

Hi Kloumann,

It could be her, but I am not sure. I searched the baptismal records of West Bathurst from late 1849 to 1858 and found two Marguerite Lavigne. This Marguerite was born on February 2nd 1853 (daughter of James Doucet and Marie Daigle) and the other Marguerite I found is the daughter of Tranquille Doucet and Marie Arseneau and was born on November 21st 1854. Neither of the records are in December (month of birth according to two censuses). It is also possible that the baptism of the Marguerite I am looking for was recorded elsewhere, under a different name or that it is missing.

Thank you,

Martin

That's the one I was checking on FindMyPast. Found this death -

Hi hanes teulu,

The record in your message is for Tranquille Doucet which could be her father, but there is also James Doucet who could be her father as I said in my reply to Kloumann. It could also be neither of them. If the death happened in New Brunswick and the record is found, the names of the parents should be written on it.

Thank you,

Martin
