Kenneth's first wife June died in 2001. Her obit states she had been married to Kenneth, and they were divorced. This seems to confirm everything you suspected.

Thanks again.  That clarifies things.  The hang-up was that I couldn't figure out if Camille had married the much older Kenneth Thompson Sr. or if she had married Kenneth Thompson Jr. who was closer to her own age.
