William Rigby Reynell
« on: Friday 24 November 23 17:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me find William's parents. He was born around 1806 in Hornchurch, Essex. I haven't been able to find any kind of baptism for him, but I found someone called John REYNELL RIGBY born around 1802 in Hornchurch, Essex. It seems too much of a coincidence for them not to be brothers, but why is John's surname Rigby, and William's is Reynell?
William married Marianne Wale and had 5 children with her (all born in London), his sons all had the middle name of Rigby too.
Thank you for any help!  :)

I'm not sure, no baptisms for ''John Rigby'' in Essex seem to be him. I just found him on the 1851 census as ''John Reynell Rigby'' born in Hornchurch, sorry.

I can't answer your direct questions, but I have found Charles Mason Reynell b Hornchurch c1830, son of Charles and Mary (nee Mason).  They marry in Southwark in 1829 - he's of that parish, Mary from Hornchurch. No Reynells in the witnesses, sadly.

Charles snr appears to die in 1836 - said to be of Hornchurch. His will is on Ancestry. I'm not very good with legal script from that era, but I can see mention twice of a John Rigby Fisher

Also the Times of Nov. 29, 1805 has an advertisement from W H Reynell, MA, Minister of Hornchurch, for a book of discourses and sermons he has published. His death is noted in a local paper in 1809

John Rigby Fisher (leatherseller of Maze Pond Southwark)  joined the freemasons in 1827. two entries above his, in the same lodge, is Charles Reynell of Hornchurch

John appears to be Southwark born and bred - not sure where the Rigby comes into it or if he's related. I'm really just casting about for any possible leads!

He was married to Martha Clutton 1792
She died 1813. Her will is on ancestry,  Just one surviving son, Walter, who is a minor.
She names some half brothers & sisters, one of whom is Thomas Butlin Clutton.

John Reynell Rigby had a son Butler Charles Rigby

Like Mabel, just casting about, but is Butlin = Butler?

Added….”he” was William Henry Reynell the vicar who died 1809.  Per reply #5. Sorry about that.  Missed it out in the copy & paste.
