English electoral rolls
« on: Saturday 25 November 23 02:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can you  access English Electoral Rolls after circa 2000, and do they include full names.  I am in Australia and was hoping to access electronically.
Any pointers greatly appreciated ;D

192.com has electoral registers but you have to pay to view them. It is also available on FindMyPast

After 2002 it will be the open register which only shows the names of those who wish to appear on it.  We also had the opportunity to request that our names were removed from this database prior to that date

Libraries etc also only have the open register.  The full register which is used for voting purposes is not available to the public to view

Electoral Registers are listed by address, not by name.
The current registers are usually available to view at local libraries, not online.
Then there is the Data Protection Act to take into account!

As has already been said, they are available on Findmypast where the are searchable by name. You may be lucky if it is not a particularly common surname and you have an idea of the area you expect them to be.

Only the forename and middle initial, if there is one,  is shown. I have a common surname and there are five entries for people with my name and initial in the area I live, but only one is me.
CHOULES All ,  COKER Harwich Essex & Rochester Kent
COLE Gt. Oakley, & Lt. Oakley, Essex.
DUNCAN Kent
EVERITT Colchester,  Dovercourt & Harwich Essex
GULLIVER/GULLOFER Fifehead Magdalen Dorset
HORSCROFT Kent.
KING Sturminster Newton, Dorset. MONK Odiham Ham.
SCOTT Wrabness, Essex
WILKINS Stour Provost, Dorset.
WICKHAM All in North Essex.
WICKHAM Medway Towns, Kent from 1880
WICKHAM, Ipswich, Suffolk.

Thank you, I was going to ask, I found an entry on FindMyPast with a cheeky look, showing a middle initial.  I don't really want to pay a subscription and find that the full record only has the middle initial and not the name.  Are you aware if full access reveals what initials stand for?  I'm a bit dubious as the subject's spouse actually gives a full name. ;D

Using my own name, there are 9 hits; but only 3 of these are me!
2 hits from Isle of Man and 1 hit from Swindon.
Nothing from all my years living in Somerset or Bristol!

I am aware, from FreeBMD, of 3 other people who share my forename and surname ;)
