Mrs. Morris. The Racecourse, Oswestry. Dating help please.
« on: Saturday 25 November 23 22:54 GMT (UK) »
This was in my father-in-laws procession when he died. It says Mrs. Morris on the back and she was FIL’s grandmother although she had adopted FIL’s mother. She was widowed ( married to Thomas Davies ) maiden name Mary Ann Jones,  b. 1864 in Chirk.  I am hoping that the clothing can be dated so that I can decide which husband is in the photo. Also it will help in deciding who the child is - potentially my husband’s grandmother. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi John'sDaughter and welcome to RootsChat. This a lovely image and just look at that tiny waist  :o
This is an early Edwardian image and a great image to have. I think an attempt at restoration on it has been carried out at some point.

Hi Treetotal. Thank you for your welcome and reply. You are correct that the photo has had some work done on it. Mrs. Morris’s face is clearer now. So early Edwardian would mean this is her second husband who was 16 years younger than her.

Mid-late 1890's & probably closer to mid.
They look similar in ages & certainly not 14 years difference.

I checked up on Mary Ann's Chirk origins, as many of mine were there at the time, but no link!

Did she marry Edwin Morris in Oswestry 2Q, 1887?
I see she may have married a John Morris circa 1909.

I was thinking 1895-1898 ish for the date.

Just wondering if this might be a wedding photo. there's a possible marriage to a Thomas Davies  Q3 1896, Oswestry RD.

Also, this could be them in 1901 RG13/2545/144/32/190

With them is a John T Davies, adopted son, aged 7 b. Cefn.  - i.e. b.c.  1894. This could be the youngster in the photo. At that age boys were put in dresses. Also the hair is parted on the left .

Just a thought.

I agree Gadget, I thought the child look more likely to be a boy too.
