Richard REPATH, born 12/08/1842, Lambeth
« on: Sunday 26 November 23 09:49 GMT (UK) »
Good Morning,

According to a Family Tree this gentleman died in Wandsworth Gaol (House of Correction) on 11/04/1865, with the Surrey Coroner's inquest confirming the cause as consumption on 13/04/1865.

I approached the "owner" of the Family Tree for more details, especially the primary source, but sadly there has been no response.  Subsequently I had researched every source available to me that could have provided the details, Ancestry, FamilySearch, FindMyPast, The National Archives etc. to no avail.   Oddly, the prison records have not been helpful, even to the extent of not confirming his death.

There is one huge difficulty.  He had many aliases, Henry WILSON, Charles LEWIS, George SMITH and, possibly, Richard REDPATH.   I have trawled through the prison records for each of these aliases but, again, no results.

I would welcome any suggestions, please.

Thank You

FindMyPast has an 1858 record of the conviction of Richard Repath/Redpath (alias George Smith) which gives his last address as 13 China Walk, Lambeth with father William Redpath also at that address. The record has Richard born "Waterloo Road".

These snippets are from the South London Journal, 5 Feb1856 - yet to check out an Isaac Repath (a fair no. of "hits" on FindMyPast under prison records!).

1841 Census
Isaac Repath, age 4, born County

In the household at Le Grand Place, St Mary, Lambeth also are William Repath, age 40, carpenter, not born County and Ann Repath, 33, not born in County + Alfred and Rhoda.

By 1851 William, age 41, widower, carpenter, born Oreston, Devon and Isaac, 14, carpenter's son, born Lambeth are in Plymstock, Devon. Not with others from the '41 Census.

Good Morning,

Thank you for all your information.   Delighted as I can now complete my narrative (biography) for him.

However, I have one very serious, grave concern.   Your "death" references appear to originate from sources I quoted, yet I have "missed" them in my research!!!   I acknowledge dotage could be a possibility.  Nevertheless, it is a worry that the references escaped me all the same.

Once again, thank you so very much.
