Looking for the Petersen family of Devon
« on: Friday 01 December 23 07:24 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find any living descendants of Peter Edward Petersen or his children, Carl Williams Petersen, Thomas Edward Petersen, Henrietta Petersen. Peter Petersen came to England from Copenhagen, Denmark around 1838 and married Mary Williams about 1842. They settled in Dartmouth to raise their family. Carl W. Petersen (my great Grandfather) raised his family in Tiverton.

I would love to be able to trace Peter back farther, but have been unable to find him on any passenger lists. I'm hoping someone in England may have more info than I. Thank you!

Sorry - Rootschat has a strict no living persons policy so if you are looking for living descendants we would be unable to help

Peter PetersOn married Mary Williams 1843 Totnes

You would need to find marriages for each of the children then marriages for their children & so forth.  You would also need to search under Peters*n to allow for changes in spelling

There are these marriages on freebmd www.freebmd.org.uk

Henrietta Peterson  1881 Totnes to either Thomas Henry R Cradeford or George Wells

Thomas Edward Petersen 1873 Totnes to either Ann Maria Paddon or Sarah Jane Weymouth

Censuses are free to search here

There are some Scandinavian experts on RC.
Maybe include "Norway" in your subject header to bring it to their attention?

Hi
There is too little to go on really. He may have come from Copenhagen or any part of Denmark really. Do you have his marriage certificate, it may state his father's name?

Ian

The 1881 census says he was born in Copenhagen, but Petersen is such a common name it doesn't narrow it down much.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
