Hi AuntNeena
I think this is the Edvard you are referring to in your pm:

I recommend you post your answers in this thread.

Hi Ian, Thank you so much for the link to this document. Is this a christening doc? It looks like it lists his birth date as either the 13th or 19th of Feb. 1815, and his Christening as Feb. 26. I can make out his parents names, but little else. Do you have a recommendation for where I could have the rest translated to english?

Also, any suggestions on how to find Edward's immigration papers, and Rasmus & Kirstine's parents? If only I could read Danish...

He was born 19th and christened 26th February.
Rasmus was a labourer and his wife Kristine Clausen was 33 years old.
The other names are witnesses.

I can help you with any translations.

But you need the marriage certificate to confirm if this is your man.

Ian

I don't think there will be any immigration papers. He probably worked his way by boat to England. He may have been a seaman and even jumped ship.
I have come across this before.

Thanks for your help with the translation! I did find an entry on Ancestry.com that lists an Edward Petersen arriving on a ship from Hamburg in 1840. This would make sense since he married in 1843. I will try to get that marriage certificate.
Appreciate all your help!

Hi Ian,
Happy New Year to you!
I ordered and just received my GGG grandfather's marriage certificate, and it does list a name that sure looks like "Rasmus" to me, tho the first part of the name is not as clear as the last—"mus". "Profession of Father" is Labourer as we saw on Edwards birth certificate. I'm fairly certain this is him.

I would like to find Rasmus & Kirstine's marriage certificate, but the Danish is such a barrier for me.  Any advice you might have for doing that would be much appreciated! :)

I just wanted to add that the name on the marriage certif. may be Asmus, which still makes sense, since I guess it is a form of the name Rasmus. So not too far off!

Happy New Year to you!
Cheers and to you too.

Can you scan his name and post it?

Hi Ian,
I upload online all the time, but this page confounds me. I see the "Attachments and other options" but nothing happens and there is no upload button. I'll keep trying, but let me know if you have any idea about what's going on—thanks!
