Ann CRAMP
« on: Friday 01 December 23 13:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I have a brick-wall with my 4 times gt grandfather William Hopkins born about 1775 who married Ann Cramp in Lewes, Sussex on 7th September 1796.  He was born in Wiltshire but married as "a soldier" as noted on the marriage record. Both of the parish of Lewes at the time. I believe he was in the Wiltshire Militia and their military movements confirm this although I dont have a definitive muster roll to prove this. Unfortunaley thats where my records end for him and that is still ongoing.

So I have decided to tackle Ann Cramp his wife but sadly have very little information for her.  Assuming she married in her early twenties I guess a birth date of around 1772/1775 ish. I dont know her parents and the only pointer I have is that Thomas Cramp is a witness at the wedding. I have yet to prove if this is her father, brother or other relation.

Does anyone recognise the name, have Ann or Thomas in their tree or can offer some suggestions?

Heres hoping. Thanks in advance

There are these 3 baptisms in Sussex, but all a bit outside your suggested timeframe.

Baptism of Ann Cramp:

11/4/1766 @ Battle St. Mary to Benjamin & Judith Cramp

28/7/1765 @ Dallington St. Giles to Samuel & Mary Cramp

6/1/1765 @ Ewhurst St. James & St. Mark to John & Mary Cramp.

Don't think there are any Ann Cramp births to a father Thomas so maybe a brother, which will narrow the timeframe.

Thanks for those replying but I am aware of William Sheppard's marriage to Ann Cramp in 1796.

I am trying to find some history for Ann. ie. Parents, Where she lived, who Thomas is to her?

Hi All

In your original post you stated that William Hopkins married Ann Cramp in 1796, but now you are saying that you know about William Sheppard also marrying Ann Cramp in 1796.

A tad confusing as the same Ann Cramp cannot have married both of them in 1796.

Blimey.  Thats a major ****up!

I must have had Family Tree Brain overload.

My original post should have read William Sheppard.  Thats what you get when you keep swapping families.

Im so sorry for the confusion. So William Sheppard married Ann Cramp in 1796 in Lewes, Sussex. Im trying to find her DOB, family etc.
